My Internship at AI Sweden – Right in the Flow of the Future

I looked forward to my internship at AI Sweden the way you look forward to summer. You know something good is coming. It’s going to be exciting, full of learning, maybe even a bit challenging. But how it actually unfolds? You only know that once you’re in it.

For me, it became a deep dive into applied AI – and a journey into what I actually know, and how far I’ve come.

A Place Where AI Happens – For Real

My internship took place at AI Sweden, the national center for applied artificial intelligence. Their mission is clear: to accelerate the use of AI for the benefit of society, to boost innovation, and to improve life in Sweden.

And it shows. At AI Sweden, AI isn’t just something you talk about – it’s something you build, test, and apply every day.

Two Projects. One Shared Goal: Real AI in Practice

🧠 Gemini Boost Sessions
The first project I led focused on increasing awareness and usage of Gemini, Google’s large language model, within AI Sweden. I designed a learning journey, identified relevant topics, sourced speakers, planned and booked sessions – and finally, hosted one myself on image prompting with Gemini, presented to Lindholmen Science Park.

🛠 AI Tools for the Communications Team
The second project aimed to explore how AI could support the internal communications team – by identifying AI tools to streamline editorial workflows, improve content quality, and assist in everyday communication tasks.

Both projects followed different tracks but shared one destination: helping AI Sweden use AI in practical, transformative ways.

One highlight for me personally was being invited to host the Gemini image prompting session for Lindholmen Science Park.

Extra Initiative: From Conversation to Community

One of my favorite moments came from a spontaneous conversation at a desk. That quick exchange sparked an idea – and soon after, I started a Slack initiative called “Img Boot Camp”.

I shared guides, image prompting tips, and a hands-on exercise each day. The interest grew fast. What started as a casual initiative ended up as an official part of the Gemini Boost program, and I had the chance to lead one of the planned sessions myself.

Learning by Doing – And Being in the Middle of It All

What made the internship stand out was not just the projects – but the constant motion around me. In just a few weeks, I got to:

🤖 Watch a robot hackathon happen right in the office
🎤 Attend an AI Sweden Partner Meetup filled with inspiring lightning talks
🧩 Join weekly internal sessions sharing the latest in AI research, experiments, and collaborations

This wasn’t just an internship. It was full immersion in Sweden’s applied AI ecosystem – something you can’t learn from textbooks. You have to be there, in the flow of it.

Lessons I’ll Take With Me

One clear insight? Things take time. Especially when you’re new to an organization and learning its rhythm. At first, I felt like I wasn’t moving fast enough – but with the support of my mentor and colleagues, momentum built. And just like that, everything started happening at once.

A classic ketchup effect.

If I’d had seven weeks instead of five, I would have taken both projects from zero to full execution. Still, what I gained was something even more valuable: the feeling of contributing.

I wasn’t just learning. I was part of something. I helped shape ideas, launch initiatives, and push AI forward in a real, tangible way..

And somewhere in the middle of all that, I realized something:
I’ve learned more than I thought. I have something valuable to bring.
And that feels promising with a few weeks left.

What I’m Taking With Me

Beyond the tools and the tech, what I’m taking with me is this:

🧠 Broader knowledge of applied AI in Sweden
💬 Greater confidence in communicating AI
🤝 A real sense of momentum and collaboration across industries

People, companies, government agencies, universities – everyone is asking the same question:
“What can AI do for us?”

And somewhere in the middle of that, I realized: I have something to contribute. I’ve learned more than I thought.

That’s a powerful place to be – especially with the future so close.
